Preparation
  • Participants:
    • Product owner
    • Scrum master
    • Team members
  • Product backlog is prepared (items are estimated and ordered) and visible for everyone
  • Planning poker cards are distributed
  • Duration: 90 minutes
Moderation
  • Agenda, goal, overview (what is this meeting about?)
  • Product owner shows and describes the backlog items
  • Team gets all required information about the backlog item
  • Team estimates the backlog items (planning poker, magic estimations, …)
  • Backlog items will be splitted if they’re too big.
  • this goes on until the time is over or all backlog items are estimated
  • Goal: Team has a better understanding of the backlog items, splitted them into smaller ones and estimated them, open questions are noted
Additional information
  • big backlog items must be splitted into smaller ones
  • the product owner does not estimate the items, because he’s not the one who implements it
  • prioritization of the backlog item can be done via “value estimation meetings”
  • team works together with the product owner on the requirements – agile also means that business people and technical people work together
